Everything you need to know about WalkPunch

Exports

Yes — PDF export is available on all plans. Paid plans include additional delivery options such as email delivery to subcontractors and other export formats where supported.

General

When you hit your plan limit, the upload or project creation will be blocked with a message explaining how many slots you have and suggesting an upgrade. On the Free plan you get 1 project and 1 walkthrough slot; Starter gives you 10 of each. To add more, either delete an existing project or walkthrough, or upgrade your plan from the Pricing page.

Yes — Starter and Pro plans are available on annual billing at a discounted rate (roughly 2 months free, about 17% savings versus monthly). You can switch between monthly and annual on the Pricing page before checkout. Annual subscriptions are billed as a single upfront charge and renew yearly.

The Vendor Directory (/vendors) lets you maintain a global list of subcontractor contacts organized by trade (e.g. electrical, plumbing, drywall). Add a vendor's name, email, phone, and trade, then assign them to punch items manually from the review screen or use Auto-Assign to match vendors to items by trade automatically. On the Starter plan and above, you can email a punch item PDF directly to the assigned vendor.

Evidence frames are video screenshots automatically captured at the moment each punch item is mentioned in your narration. They are attached to the corresponding punch item and appear inline in PDF exports and emails to subcontractors, so recipients can see exactly what you were pointing at — no video access needed. Evidence frame capture is available on Starter and Pro plans.

Yes — from the punch list review page you can edit any item's title, description, location, trade, and priority. You can also update the status of an item (draft, approved, in progress, or completed), reorder items, assign a vendor, or delete items that are not relevant. Changes are saved immediately.

Yes — from the project detail page you can drag and drop items to reorder them within each trade group, and the new order is saved automatically. You can also move items up or down from the punch list review page. Items are displayed ordered by their assigned sequence within each trade category.

Each punch item has one of four statuses: Draft (AI-generated, awaiting review), Approved (reviewed and accepted), In Progress (work underway), or Completed (work finished). You can update the status from the punch list review page or the project detail page. Tracking statuses helps you monitor outstanding work across a project.

Yes — from the punch list review page, click the Export PDFs button to download a ZIP file containing one PDF per trade. Each PDF includes all punch items for that trade, with evidence images and item details. This export is available on all plans.

Yes — from the project detail page, click the Delete button in the top-right corner. Deleting a project permanently removes all walkthroughs, punch items, evidence images, and the original video files. This action cannot be undone, so make sure you have exported any reports you need first.

How It Works

Record a phone walkthrough of the job site, upload the video to your project, and our AI transcribes the narration, extracts issues, infers rooms and trades, tags priority, and sorts items into a trade-sorted punch list with evidence. Processing runs in the background and we notify you when your punch list is ready.

No — there’s no app to install. You can record on your phone and upload the video directly from your mobile browser or desktop; everything runs in the browser and processing happens on our servers.

Pricing

The Free plan lets you try WalkPunch without a credit card: 1 project, 1 walkthrough upload, PDF export, and basic trade classification. It’s great for testing the workflow before upgrading.

The Starter plan ($29/month) gives more capacity (example: 10 active projects and 10 walkthrough slots), email delivery to subcontractors, full trade categories, evidence frame capture, PDF export and vendor contact management. There is no free trial — you can use the Free plan to try WalkPunch and upgrade when you need more capacity.

You can change plans from the Billing page in your account. Upgrades take effect immediately and may be prorated; downgrades typically take effect at the end of your current billing period unless you request an immediate change. Billing is handled by Stripe and you'll receive a confirmation email when changes are applied.

You can cancel from the Billing page in your account. Cancelling will stop future recurring payments; your access to paid features continues until the end of your current billing period. If you need an immediate cancellation or have questions about refunds, please contact support from the Contact page and include your account email and plan details so we can help.

Privacy & Security

Your original walkthrough video is stored privately in our S3 bucket and is served to authorized users via short-lived presigned links (the default expiration is one hour). Selected frames extracted as evidence are uploaded to a public media prefix so they can be embedded in exports and emails — those image files are intentionally public so recipients can view evidence without needing a presigned video link. If you have sensitive content you do not want shared publicly, please remove it before uploading or contact support for guidance.

Projects

From the Dashboard click New Project. You can add a project name, address, client name, job number and notes. Projects are the container for walkthroughs and vendors; project settings and uploads are accessible from the project detail page.

Support

If processing fails the walkthrough will be marked as failed. First try re-uploading the video (sometimes uploads are corrupted). If the problem persists, contact support via the Contact page and include: project name, walkthrough title (or ID), approximate upload time, and any error messages you see in the UI. This information speeds troubleshooting — engineers will also check the walkthroughs.processing_error field and worker logs to identify the cause.

To reduce spam and automated submissions, the Contact form can be protected with Cloudflare Turnstile (a lightweight CAPTCHA). If keys are configured you may be asked to complete a quick verification when sending a message. If you have trouble submitting, try another browser or email us directly at hello@walkpunch.com.

Technology

Yes — WalkPunch uses a third-party AI transcription service (OpenAI's Whisper via the OpenAI API) to generate transcripts. We request word-level timestamps (when available) so we can link spoken items back to the video for seeking and evidence. Audio is sent to the transcription provider as needed during processing; if transcription fails the walkthrough will be marked as failed and the processing_error field/logs will include details for troubleshooting.

Upload & Formats

WalkPunch accepts MP4, MOV, and M4V video files up to 512 MB. Anything you record from an iPhone or Android works fine. If your file is larger, try compressing or splitting the recording before uploading. Other formats (WEBM, MKV, AVI) are not supported — if your upload is rejected with "Invalid file type", check the extension. Contact support with your project name and walkthrough details if upload problems persist.

Vendors & Sharing

On Starter and Pro plans you can email punch items directly to subcontractors. From the punch list review screen, assign a vendor to an item and use the Email button to send a PDF of that item (including evidence images) to the vendor's email address. You can also manage subcontractor contacts in the Vendor Directory (/vendors) and use Auto-Assign to match vendors to items by trade automatically.

Walkthroughs & Processing

Processing time depends on video length, but most walkthroughs complete in minutes. You can close the tab — processing is handled in the background. We send an email when your punch list is ready.

We extract word-level timestamps from the transcription and attempt to match each extracted issue text to the transcript to find the nearest timestamp. When you click a timestamp in the review UI, the player seeks to that moment so you can see the original context.
